Obama calls for stricter enforcement of gun laws


Two months after the shooting of a U.S. congresswoman, President Barack Obama called Sunday for more stringent enforcement of existing gun laws, citing the "awful consequences" of gun violence in American society. In an op-ed essay in The Arizona Daily Star, Obama says legislation to bolster criminal background checks for gun buyers hasn't been properly implemented, with too many states providing "incomplete and inadequate" information.

Some 2,000 bodies have been found on two shores in Miyagi Prefecture following Friday's devastating earthquake and massive tsunami, as Japan struggles to grasp the whole picture of the disaster. Today's findings will significantly increase the death toll from the magnitude 8.9-magnitude quake and ensuing tsunami. Police have so far confirmed 1,597 deaths and 1,481 people missing across the affected areas in north-eastern and eastern Japan. About 1,000 bodies were found coming ashore on hardest-hit Miyagi's Ojika Peninsula.

WITI-TV, MILWAUKEE City crews fixed a broken water main that caused a massive sinkhole to form near Humboldt and Commerce in Milwaukee on Saturday evening. Two cars parked along the road fell into the sinkhole. The sinkhole is estimated to be 20 feet deep. Officials say it was caused when a 42-inch water main broke Saturday evening around 8 p.m...
