Proverbs 22:3 NLT

A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

Local teen charged with rape

By Lindsey Erin Kroskob  --

CHEYENNE - An 18-year-old local teen faces rape charges in Laramie County District Court.

Xavier France was formally charged with first-degree sexual assault last week.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five to 50 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

France is being held at the Laramie County jail on a $25,000 cash bond. His arraignment is set for June 6.

According to court documents, France allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old girl at his grandfather's house off Campstool Road on May 14.

The victim notified Laramie County Sheriff's detectives after the incident.

Her name is being withheld since she is the alleged victim of a sex crime.

France contacted the teen to talk and asked her to go to his grandfather's house to care for his cats, documents show.

While at the residence, the girl told detectives France placed a blue pillow over her face until she passed out. When she awoke, France was raping her, she said.

France then pulled out a knife and tried to stab her twice in the chest area, she said. She deflected those attempts with her hands, documents show.

France then allegedly stopped and said, "What am I doing? I'm a monster. I don't want to kill you. I want to protect you."

The girl told detectives France then choked her until she passed out.

When she awoke the second time, France allegedly grabbed a revolver and started to load it, saying, "Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you. I'm going to kill myself."

He then told her to get dressed and drove her home.

When contacted by officers, France said he knew something bad had happened but couldn't remember what, documents show.

France told the detectives he had taken the girl to his grandfather's house and had smoked marijuana there, documents show.

He said he began having intercourse with the girl and became angry when she said she didn't want to.

France then said he pulled out a large knife and began "waving it around." He said he swung it toward her abdomen but was unsure if he had punctured her skin, documents show.

Detectives found blood smeared on the staircase of the home as well as blood splatter in France's bedroom above the wall.

They also recovered the knife, which appeared to have blood on it, and the revolver.
