Proverbs 22:3 NLT

A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

Ex-Israeli spymaster: Iran response to Israeli attack would be devastating

Former Mossad chief Meir Dagan said that an Israeli strike on Iran would lead to a missile attack on Israel that would have a "devastating impact" on the country, in an interview that aired Sunday on CBS's 60 minutes. According to Dagan, an attack will start a regional war. “And wars, you know how they start. You never know how you are ending it," he said. “I think that Israel will be in a very serious situation for quite a time,” Dagan told 60 Minutes reporter Lesley Stahl, when asked about a possible Israeli response to an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear program. Dagan also expressed skepticism over the effectiveness of an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear program to deny Iran nuclear weapons. Unlike what has been reported in the past, according to Dagan there aren’t four Iranian nuclear sites but “dozens.”

Iran rattles sabers: ’11,000 missiles ready to launch’ at Israel, US targets

The Iranian newspaper Kayhan reported Thursday that in the first minutes of any American conflict with Iran, “Israel and all U.S. interests around the world will be targeted.” The newspaper, which is under the supervision of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ran the story under the headline “11,000 Missiles Ready to Launch.” And on Saturday, Tehran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Qazanfar Roknabadi, confirmed during a public roundtable event that the Islamic regime is prepared to attack both Israel and U.S. bases in the...

Israel to delay strike on Iran until after US elections?

Israel will only strike Iranian nuclear facilities in September or after the United States presidential elections in November, a White House official told the British Sunday Times newspaper after a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama last week. According to the report, Obama has taken Israel's warnings about a possible strike in Iran very seriously. The Washington source added that the president “might visit in the summer to reassure the Israelis that the US commitment to defend Israel...

U.S. military unveil latest weapon ... a ray beam that makes the enemy feel 'quite hot'

The US military have unveiled their infamous non-lethal weapon - an electromagnetic beam of fierce heat. When the Active Denial System (ADS) is activated, it beams a high-frequency electromagnetic ray beam at a target up to one thousand metres (0.6 miles) away. Mounted on a military vehicle for crowd control, the waves create a heat so uncomfortable the natural response is to flee. 'This is the safest nonlethal capability that we have,' said Director of the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, Marine Col. Tracy Tafolla. 'You’re not going...

Global liquidity peak spells trouble for late 2012

Data collected by Simon Ward at Henderson Global Investors shows that M1 money supply growth in the big G7 economies and leading E7 emerging powers buckled over the winter. The gauge - known as six-month real narrow money - peaked at 5.1pc in November. It dropped to 3.6pc in January, and to 2.1pc in February. This is comparable to falls seen in mid-2008 in the months leading up to the Great Recession, and which caught central banks so badly off guard. “The speed of the drop-off is worrying. This acts with a six months lag time so we can...

Investors plump up their holdings as gold continues its surge upwards

Investors have increased their holdings in exchange-traded products backed by gold for seven weeks in a row, leaving them with a record 2,408 tonnes valued at over $130bn (£83bn), according to data from Bloomberg. Meanwhile 16 out of the 23 analysts surveyed expect the gold price to gain this week, with only one neutral – the most since mid-November. The gold price is already up 9pc so far this year, building on 11 years of increases. The surge is being driven by speculation that the Federal Reserve could push through further quantitative...

Blair takes on the Pope by backing gay marriage

Tony Blair has defied the Pope by making clear he "strongly supports" plans for gay marriage, The Independent on Sunday has learnt. The former prime minister, a Catholic since 2007, backs proposals by David Cameron for a new law allowing homosexuals to marry. A consultation on gay marriage to be launched later this month has met fierce opposition from senior figures in the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of England. On Friday, Pope Benedict XVI urged Catholics to block the "powerful political and cultural currents...

Former NASA specialist claims he was fired over intelligent design

LOS ANGELES – NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has landed robotic explorers on the surface of Mars, sent probes to outer planets and operates a worldwide network of antennas that communicates with interplanetary spacecraft. Its latest mission is defending itself in a workplace lawsuit filed by a former computer specialist who claims he was demoted -- and then let go -- for promoting his views on intelligent design, the belief that a higher power must have had a hand in creation because life is too complex to have developed through...

Rapture prediction was good business for pet rescue

But for Bart Centre, Camping's mea culpa could have real impact on his bottom line. The co-owner of a business that promises to care for the pets of Christians who are swept up in the Rapture saw a jump in business last year ahead of Camping's prediction. Now he's sorry to see Camping get out of the predictions business. "It was obviously a mistake," said Centre, who runs Eternal Earth-Bound Pets from New Hampshire. "I'm just sorry that he's not going to be doing any more predictions because it's good for business." Camping's original...

Fed Unveils Doomsday Scenario for Banks

The Federal Reserve [cnbc explains] released its "worst-case scenario" bank stress test criteria Monday and said it will release full results Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET. The Fed will look at how the nation's 19 largest banks would survive a world with a 13 percent jobless rate, a 50-percent drop in stocks, a 21-percent decline in housing prices and a significant contraction of other major world economies. The Fed conducts the tests on banks every year, but this is the first time since 2009 that it will release its results to the public. In 2009 the Fed found billions...
