Proverbs 22:3 NLT

A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

DER SPIEGEL: The Final Battles of Pope Benedict XVI...
The mood at the Vatican is apocalyptic. Pope Benedict XVI seems tired, and both unable and unwilling to seize the reins amid fierce infighting and scandal. While Vatican insiders jockey for power and speculate on his successor, Joseph Ratzinger has withdrawn to focus on his still-ambiguous legacy.

The Millennium Falcon, Star Wars ship

Baltic ‘UFO’: New dive, new details (PHOTOS)- On June 19, 2011, a team of Swedish treasure hunters was exploring the bottom of the Baltic Sea with their sonars when they noticed a bizarre, disc-like structure at a depth of 90 meters. Back then, international experts failed to explain the sonar images. In 2012, after months of preparation, the Ocean X Team, as they call themselves, went back in order to unveil the mystery.

Pictured: The UFO-shaped object found at the bottom of the Baltic Sea... covered in soot, with 'little fireplaces' and lying at the end of a 1,000ft runway

Sceptics expected that a deep-water dive would debunk the slew of extra-terrestrial theories surrounding an unidentified object sitting at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. But the Swedish expedition team that took the plunge surfaced with more questions than answers - and certainly no solution to its origins. The divers found that the object, which some have likened to the Millennium Falcon because of its unusual round outline, was raised about 10 to 13ft above the seabed and curved in at the sides, giving it a mushroom shape. They added that the...

Venezuela has made its first drone with help from allies Iran, Russia and China, and plans to start exporting it soon. In a televised speech addressed to military officers at Venezuela's Defense Ministry, President Hugo Chavez said the aircraft is only equipped with a camera and is solely for defensive purposes, according to Reuters. "We don't have any plans to harm anyone," Chavez said during the broadcast. "We are doing this with the help of different countries including China, Russia, Iran, and other allied countries." The drone "does...

Developing nations should prepare for 'Lehmans moment', says World Bank chief Robert Zoellick

Policymakers and investors are nervously awaiting the outcome of this weekend's Greek election, which could empower radical leftists threatening to tear up the terms of a bailout deal and send shockwaves through financial markets. Developing countries needed to "prepare for the uncertainty coming out of the eurozone and the wider financial markets", Zoellick told the Observer. "It will be better if they can avoid piling up short-term debts that can come due in volatile periods and look to the fundamentals of future growth - infrastructure and...

------Central banks urged to keep markets stable
Economists and traders joined politicians in demanding that banks, including the US Federal Reserve and Bank of England, step in and stabilise stock and bond markets. According to reports today, analysts at Morgan Stanley were expecting a statement from central banks in Britain, Canada, Japan, China and India declaring a readiness to act on the eurozone crisis. The IMF announced that it was "ready to engage" with Greece. Greek politicians insisted New Democracy could quickly form a pro-bailout coalition. After 96pc of the votes were...

Climate Change or Tectonic Shifts? The Mystery of the Sinking South Pacific Islands

The island rises out of the ocean like a crenellated fortress. The trees on its slopes stand so close, their crowns so impenetrable, that the island appears to be wrapped in a blanket of green velvet. Below, palm trees line the beach and the shapes of huts, some emitting smoke, stand out against the blinding light of the rising sun. A team of French researchers steer their motorboat carefully through the reef toward Vanikoro, this fleck of earth that's part of the Solomon Islands, in the South Pacific. They've come here to uncover the island's...
