'If I were an Iranian, I would be fearful in coming weeks'
"If I were an Iranian, I would be very fearful of the next 12 weeks," former Mossad Chief Efraim Halevy was quoted by the New York Times as saying Thursday, in reference to a possible strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. The comment was made against recent assessments by American officials that the United States sees 18 months before the Islamic Republic's nuclear weapons program reaches "a critical stage"; as well as the growing concern in Washington that Israel will choose to mount an independent military strike against Iran. According to the report, Halevy based his assumption on Israel's aversion of winter battles, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's fears of dwindling support should US President Barack Obama be elected for a second term and the fact that should GOP candidate Mitt Romney be elected president.../

Last week there was euphoria when the European Central Bank boss promised “to do whatever it takes to preserve the euro” but qualified that with the prefix “within our mandate” which was a clear warning markets would need to be patient and not expect too much. The ECB’s mandate is debatable at the very least when it comes to intervening in sovereign debt and Draghi knows that. But that crucial qualification was ignored, replaced by an assumption that a big bazooka would be deployed by today and billions shot out to lower sovereign borrowing costs...---WORLD CENTRAL BANKS ON 'RED ALERT'

/TSA in hot water over advanced body imaging scanners. Agency blew off court order to hold public hearings on widespread use
A federal appeals court wants to know why the Transportation Security Administration hasn't complied with a court order to hold public hearings regarding the full body scanners found at many U.S. airports. The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ordered the TSA last summer to "promptly" hold hearings to develop rules and regulations delineating how the scanners should be used, Wired reported. But the TSA apparently never got around to it. The Circuit court requested the hearings in 2011 as part of a ruling.../
