Proverbs 22:3 NLT

A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

US general demoted over five-star hotel spree

A four-star general who headed US Africa Command has been demoted amid charges he spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on pricey travel. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta demoted General William "Kip" Ward, who was asked to reimburse $82,000 for having inappropriately used Pentagon travel funds, a senior defence official told reporters on condition of anonymity. The four-star general "will retire at the rank of lieutenant general," a three-star post, a second senior defence official said. US media reports have said the travel mishaps included bringing Ward's wife on extended business trips. One in Bermuda involved a suite for $747 a night at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Ward's wife also allegedly made unauthorised use of armoured vehicles. Ward, the first Africom commander from 2007-2011 based in Stuttgart,..

Top U.S. commander in Afghanistan under investigation

The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan is now under investigation for what is being described as “inappropriate communication” between the general and a woman implicated in the scandal swirling around former CIA director David Petraeus. In a statement released overnight, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta revealed that Gen. John Allen is now the subject of an internal investigation by Pentagon officials. He will keep his job as commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), "while the matter is under investigation...

Petraeus scandal entangles two women, another general and one rogue agent

Of all the questions swirling around the widening farce of General David Petraeus's downfall, one stands out: who is the rogue FBI agent, now dubbed Agent Shirtless, and why was he so determined to bring down the director of the CIA? Since Petraeus's sudden resignation caught Barack Obama by surprise last week, over an affair with his biographer that the FBI knew about for months, the mood in Washington has swung from regret at the loss of a respected soldier and intelligence chief to disbelief and mirth amid almost daily revelations over the...

White House to respond after 80,000 sign petition for Texas to secede from United States

About 80,000 Texans want to be the Lone Star country. The White House will respond after thousands signed a petition on a government website following U.S. President Barack Obama’s re-election asking for Texas to have the right to secede from the United States. “The U.S. continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending,” the petition, asking the Obama administration to “Peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and...

Civil Disobedience - Greek Mayors Rebel Against Public Layoffs

The atmosphere was tense at the courtyard of the Thessaloniki city hall. Dozens of municipal workers in Greece's second-largest city staged a protest Monday morning against the planned lay-offs of 27,000 civil servants. "I have been working for the city for 22 years," said one of the city administration's 4,000 employees. He requested anonymity for fear of jeopardizing his position even further. "I fear for my job. All of us do." A few hours later, city workers and journalists packed inside city hall to observe the city council meeting. The meeting...

Giant sinkhole swallowing up Windermere home's front lawn

WINDERMERE -- A sinkhole close to 60 feet wide and 10 feet deep is swallowing the front yard of a home in Windermere. Now, town engineers said dozens more homes could be in danger of sinkholes as well. The sinkhole is off Wax Berry Court, which is off Park Avenue. It's a low-lying area between Crescent Lake and Waussian Bay. Engineers said the ground water system connecting the two bodies of water could have caused the sinkhole to form. "It was about half that size,” said Paul Padfield. “The depth is about twice as deep as it originally was."..

UFO investigation after chef spots mystery object hovering in sky

A UFO investigation has been launched after a chef filmed a mystery oval-shaped object hovering over a wood. Adrian Musat, 40, of Pitlochry, Perthshire, saw the white light floating over Clunie Wood in Perthshire. He recorded the mysterious light, before sending the tape off to supernatural investigators, the British UFO Research Association (BUFORA). The father, who lives with his wife Nicoleta and two-year-old son Alex, said: "I have never seen anything like it. "I watch out the window every day and we have a beautiful view, but I have never...

Mind-Controlled Robots Bring Us One Step Closer To Our Avatar Future

It's been speculated—in big budget movies, no less—that one day mankind will never leave its computers, and will instead explore the world through virtual reality and robots. And here's the cutting-edge research that will make that nightmarish future possible. Researchers at the CRNS-AIST Joint Robotics Laboratory have created an android that can be controlled using thoughts alone. But it's not quite at the point where a user can don an electrode-embedded cap and their robot avatar will run off into the streets. At the moment the user chooses...

Wider offensive and possible ground operation on the table, as cabinet okays reserves call-up

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday night announced the onset of a broad aerial and naval bombardment of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, and said the country’s military was ready to widen its operations until its objectives were reached. Netanyahu’s national security cabinet also announced it had tasked the Israel Defense Forces with calling up extra reserve units, should the need arise, a possible precursor to a wider ground operation. The announcements came hours after an Israeli Air Force strike killed...

Gold harder than ever to find: Barrick CEO

It’s a well established fact that gold doesn’t exactly grow on trees — that’s why the stuff costs so much, for heaven’s sake. (Or at least partly.) So it was with surprise that we read of a presentation by Jamie Sokalsky, chief executive of Barrick Gold Corp., the world’s largest producer of the yellow metal, in which Mr. Sokalsky lamented, basically, that discovering gold mines is a tough business. His audience: A group of businessmen at an industry conference in Hong Kong, wise to the ways of the world. “It’s getting harder to find large deposits...

Nigel Farage - This Is My Single Greatest Fear

Today Nigel Farage spoke with King World News about his single greatest fear. Farage, MEP (Member European Parliament), also spoke with King World News about the ongoing chaos which is taking place in Europe. But first, here is what Farage had to say about the increasing unrest in the eurozone: “Strikes, strikes, strikes. Lots and lots of strikes and demonstrations. Big strikes today, all across the Mediterranean, but they are now beginning to permeate northwards. In fact, there has been a very major strike in Belgium today.” “I was...

Riot police on the streets of Lisbon and rubber bullets fired in Madrid as Europe explodes on day of anti-austerity protests

Riot police were forced to protect the Portuguese parliament from angry protestors last night following a day of violent anti-austerity protests across Europe. Hundreds of police officers took to the streets of Lisbon as protestors armed with rocks and bottles attempted to attack Parliament. There were chants of 'out with the Government' with some protestors also firing flares at the lines of riot police. Across Europe there were scenes of violent protest with rubber bullets fired on the streets of Madrid, running battles with police in Milan and Rome,..

Ron Paul Departs With ‘Our Constitution Has Failed’

Rep. Ron Paul, the iconic libertarian congressman from Texas, has delivered what will most likely be his final address to Congress. In a sprawling, 52-minute speech to the House chamber, Paul lambasted U.S. government, politicians and special interests, declaring that the U.S. people must return to virtue before the government allows them to be free, and that the Constitution has failed to limit the scope of an authoritarian bureaucracy. “Our Constitution, which was intended to limit government power and abuse, has failed,” Paul said.
