Carter Wants Terrorist Sanctions Lessened
As if the government doesn't have enough headaches right now,
along comes former President Jimmy Carter asserting the U.S. should "lighten
sanctions against terrorist organizations so 'professional' peace groups can
work with them."
Why would Carter, in conjunction with the Charity and
Security Network, send such a petition to State Secretary John Kerry at this
time? As a former President he should be aware of the problems swamping the
governmental plates in the White House.
The only explanation that holds up is this is another example of how an
Administration lie is coming home to roost. Obama has repeatedly told the lie
that the Islamist terrorist groups are "not the enemy." Carter has drunk the
Kool-Aid.
But Carter also has the examples of Libya and Egypt from the recent past as
well as the current Syria situation to support his case. America, in all three
instances, aided anti-government forces in fights to overthrow dictators. In all
three cases it is a known fact the rebels are in the field simply because of the
very Islamic organizations like Al-Qaeda or the Taliban or Hamas that we have
been actively fighting since 2002.
President George Bush made the position very clear before he sent troops
into Iraq and Afghanistan, "If you are not with us, you are against us."
But now we are berating Iran and Russia for supporting the besieged Syrian
government who is fighting tooth and nail against the Al-Qaeda led rebels.
But the irony doesn't stop there. Obama has forced the military and the
government to remove all mention of Islam and terrorist in the same sentence
since 2009. Carter, the stooge, can not see or hear anything against Islam and
being the kind-hearted man he is wants to supply help to these groups by
removing the legal bar estopping him
from providing such aid.
In 2011, facing a similar challenge, the Supreme Court ruled that
humanitarian aid fits the Patriot Act's definition of 'material support' for
terrorist groups. The Court held that supplying humanitarian aid to the
terrorist groups allows them to use all their fiscal resources to criminal (read
that as war) activity and, in effect, gives them legal status.
It is this ruling Carter wants changed.
The petition, in part, reads, "The Secretary of State can, and should,
exempt peace-building activities from this counterproductive application of the
law. Doing so would open the door for professional peace-builders to fully
engage in helping to end armed conflicts and suffering around the world while
making the United States safer."
This statement runs counter to everything America has learned over the past
11 years. We've spent billion rebuilding roads and hospitals and infrastructure
in Iraq and Afghanistan yet the expense has not won us one ally in the afflicted
countries. Indeed we are suffering more casualties from local recruits than from
the enemy still actively opposing our troops.
This headache, in great part, is one the Obama Administration deserves. In
his concerted efforts to downgrade the implication of Islam as the source of the
terrorist enemy, Obama has provided the perfect growing ground for this type of
wrongful peace attempt by his refusal to identify the enemy.
History also teaches the same lesson. France, England and the U.S. granted
Adolph Hitler's early requests in 1937 to "peacefully reclaim sovereign German
land" from Czechoslovakia. After this annexation Hitler demanded lands from
Poland. When refused, he sent troops in to reclaim the Polish land directly in
1939.
You do not give aid and comfort to the enemy during a war unless that enemy
abandons the field. Islam has not done this. Carter's request should be denied
in terms even a former Buffoon-in-Chief like he can understand.
The Obama camp has done much harm to this country. The web of lies and
deceit surrounding Washington shows there is a fundamental flaw emanating from
the White House and afflicting the entire American landscape.
