Argentina's Former Public Works Secretary Caught Burying $8.5 Million

On Tuesday, the former public works secretary under Kirchner, Jose Lopez, was arrested after he was caught burying bags containing an estimated $8.5 million in cash in the grounds of a convent near Buenos Aires. Police were tipped off by a neighbor who saw Lopez taking bags out of his car in the middle of the night. Lopez, who currently serves as a lawmaker in the Mercosur parliament, was found with an assault rifle and six bags containing dollars, euros, yen, and Qatari riyal Bloomberg reports.

Does it seem like animal attacks on humans are increasing in frequency and intensity?  You may want to reserve judgment until you have read the rest of this article.  All over the world lately there have been very disturbing news stories about the beasts of the earth becoming extremely aggressive and attacking humans.  At first I ignored these stories, but something happened last night that made me change my mind.  My wife and I were getting ready to head for bed when I decided to check the news one last time.  I was absolutely stunned to see that a large alligator had grabbed a 2-year-old boy from Nebraska while he was playing in about a foot of water near a Disney resort down in Florida.  This happened right in front of his parents, and his father desperately tried to pull the boy away from the gator but he was unable to.  Authorities searched all night for the young child, and on Wednesday afternoon the worst case scenario was confirmed… (Read More...)

First Treasuries, Now China Is Also Liquidating US Stocks

As it turns out, China wasn't selling only Treasurys. According to a Bloomberg analysis when peeking deeper at the TIC data, while China’s sales of Treasuries have slowed, its holdings of U.S. equities are now showing steep declines as Beijing proceeds to liquidate a substantial portion of its US equities: China's stash of American stocks sank about $126 billion, or 38%, from the end of July through March, to just $201 billion. That far outpaces selling by investors globally in that period.

RT - France has relaxed gun rules for its police force, allowing officers to carry firearms while off-duty. The policy change comes just days after a police couple was murdered by a jihadist in a Paris suburb. The decision was made at a Tuesday meeting between police unions and Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve on…. France’s current state of emergency, put into place after the November terror attacks in Paris, already allows officers to carry guns while off-duty. However, Wednesday’s decision will allow them to continue doing so once the state of emergency is over. The announcement came just two days after a police officer and his girlfriend were stabbed to death in front of their three-year-old son at their home in Magnanville, France. The 25-year-old attacker, an Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militant, was shot dead by a police.

The U.S. Congress has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2017 with provisions that will force women to sign up for potential military draft and continues the practice of indefinite detention.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate approved a $602 billion annual defense budget that President Obama has promised to veto because the bill does not allow for the closing of the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Senate Bill 2943, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017, passed with a vote of 85 Senators in favor and 13 against.

One issue the entire Congress seemed to agree on was voting against closing military bases around the world. While the Pentagon called for budget cuts stating that the military has more space than they need, Congress refused to go along with the cuts…. Another contentious area of debate was the mandate to force women who turn 18 on or after Jan. 1, 2018 to register for Selective Service. Males are already required register within 30 days of their 18th birthday…. The most horrendous part of the NDAA 2017 is that that the annual military budget continues to include a provision which allows for indefinite detention of American citizens without a right to trial. On Thursday June 9, Senators Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Dianne Feinstein of California spoke on the floor of the Senate in support of an amendment bill which would have removed the indefinite detention clause from NDAA 2017 and offered protections to American citizens weary of a federal government with too much power.

The Minimum Wage Pain Continues: Hundreds More To Be Fired At Walmart
Zero Hedge - Walmart has been overly eager to boost everyone's wage in order to appease the living wage crowd, and as a result the company has had to move forward with massive layoffs and store closings to try and mitigate the impact on profits. Earlier this month we also noted that Walmart is testing out drones that when operational, will be able to carry out what once were human tasks in its large distribution centers. This effort will further position the company to be able to shed more labor and benefit expense in the future. That said, Walmart isn't waiting for the drone initiative to come online. The company recently announced that the accounting function at roughly 500 stores, mostly on the West Coast, will be eliminated and the job responsibilities will be handled by a shared service center at Walmart's Bentonville, Arkansas headquarters the WSJ reports.
