Work Force Loses Ground, Expect Deficit Climb
My first public statement, after a 20-year hiatus, came in September 2009. In that statement I claimed the U.S. government debt was not the $14 trillion number set forth by government--that was the amount already overspent--but, when counting the shortages coming as everyone considered a U.S. citizen as of Jan. 1, 2001, aged, would be $242 trillion. I stunned the audience.
In 2012 I revised the figure considerably up to $308 trillion. The revision was necessary due to the influx on humanity, the push for illegals to obtain citizenship and the rising costs of health care for individuals--which were now part of government obligations. My summation was so far out in front of everyone else I had to trot out projection facts over and over.
The economic outlook today is bleaker than it was in 2012. Thus the deficit projections from other sources are beginning to reflect a sharp increase in "future debt." Slowly but surely the pack is catching up to my given assessment.
Two notable insiders--Larry Kudlow, host of the Kudlow Report, and David Stockman, Reagan's budget chief--are moving considerably closer to my assessment though they want different things.
Kudlow, a Wall Street insider--assessed the latest jobs report and while he wants a taxation and regulation reform from Washington to correct business woes--he noted in his Friday report, "The unemployment rate fell to 4.7% largely because 458,000 people left the labor force." He is dead on accurate in the statement but concluding that reforms from Washington are going to be the answer is like telling the Dutch boy with his finger in the dike to just plug the leak for a little bit longer and things will be hunky-dory.
Kudlow missed the fact the labor participation rate fell to 62.6%, even WITH 458,000 individuals withdrawing from government calculations. What that means is the working Americans are going to be asked to carry even more of a deficit load down the line. If the 458,000 that dropped out were all seniors, that would have been of a slight benefit. But more and more the people dropping from the workforce are below the age of 50--meaning those people will probably be drawing housing allowance, food stamps and, probably, other forms of government assistance.
While not working will lower their expected Social Security benefits later on, those people will be on public programs much sooner than the anticipated retirement age of 65--vastly increasing the rise in government debt now as that will be immediate expenditures. Also, by quitting the workforce, those people will no longer be contributing revenues through payroll taxes that the government was counting on to meet current obligations.
Stockman in his Friday opinion put the bill for unfunded liabilities "for social security, Medicare and other entitlements" at $80 trillion. My projection for Social Security and Medicare stands in excess of $162 trillion. The obvious discrepancy is because I have included everyone currently here on a green card, overstayed visa or those falling into the illegal immigrant class which in his amnesty try Obama claimed was 5 million workers and 6 million dependents but for which he ordered 11 million work permits, and anchor baby families. One recent opinion piece cited by the Blaze put the number of illegals here at upwards of 100 million.
Stockman used American-born Baby Boomers as the basis for his $80 trillion base. He stated, "There are about 50 million persons 65-or-over at present, but this number will rise to 80 million by 2040."
Hah! I demand a recount. There are 'expected to be' 80 million living American Baby Boomers over 65 by 2020--not counting everyone else who came from around the globe on a student visa or work visa and never returned home.
Stockman, however, was right on the state of the government resources to pay this bill. "Moreover, there is nothing in the OASDI trust funds except intergovernmental accounting confetti. Every dime that was collected from FICA taxes--more than $1 trillion per year--has already been spent on education grants, Federal employee salaries, aircraft carriers, cotton subsidies, windmill farms and thousand of other Washington boondoggles."
Just a question for you. Have you ever figured out how Bill Clinton managed a balanced budget his last two years? In 1999 Congress 'borrowed' $320 billion from the SS Permanent Trust Fund and in 2000 took the remaining $245 billion. In Parkersburg, WV, on the main street there is a little office in which are file cabinets stuffed with Congressional IOUs. That is the home of the United States' Social Security Permanent Trust Fund.
Adding to the government cash flow woes is the impending plan to raise interest rates. Those rates, on $19 trillion, add half a trillion to the debt load with each quarter point rise--making more debt without a single current benefit being paid out.
Because of campaign rhetoric, the chances the entitlements' shortfall will be decreased fall somewhere between slim and none. Yet the revenues continue to flounder with a weakening economy. Unless the U.S. leader--current or future--just defaults on the recorded debt, necessary bills for Constitutionally-mandated items like defense and roads cannot be met.
Yet, the current leader claimed in a speech at Elkhart, IN last week that more 'generous' payouts for FICA-provided programs are necessary. "Not only do we need to strengthen long-term health, it is time we made Social Security more generous and increased its benefits so today's retirees and future generations get the dignified retirement they've earned," spouted Obama.
Where the funding for this will come from no politician will or can say. Until we have leadership with backbones of steel, the financial problems will never be addressed. Even if they are, the government must find a way for it to be more beneficial to remain in the workforce or any plan concocted will also lead to financial ruin.
Somehow, someway, Washington must reconcile the 458,000 who "dropped out." Any school of higher learning in the country would lose its accreditation if it didn't account for its dropouts. Yet the government gives itself a pass on this--as do the insiders.
Unless there is a way to entice those dropouts back into the workforce, the debt game will only come to a quicker demise. Even if they can be returned to the work force there is no guarantee of success for the economy but at least there'd be more hope.

The VA says the surgical procedures were not deemed to be "medically necessary" in the past and there were questions over their safety and effectiveness. However, as the military prepares to allow transgender troops to serve openly and President Barack Obama's administration wrangles with states over the rights of transgender people to use the restrooms of the their choice, it appears, as Military.com reports, that transition-related surgeries may soon be covered...

As Under The Radar reports, Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter has declared that transgender men and women “are being hurt by an outdated, confusing, inconsistent approach that’s contrary to our value of service and individual merit.” He’s ordered a six-month study that will most likely provide a roadmap for integrating transgender troops into military service.
A study by the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law suggests that 150,000 transgender men and women have served in the U.S. military, with approximately 15,500 of them still in uniform. At least 18 other countries have already integrated transgender troops into their militaries.

"However, increased understanding of gender dysphoria and surgical techniques in this area have improved significantly, and surgical procedures are now widely accepted in the medical community as medically necessary treatment for gender dysphoria," the VA wrote in the notice.
The department called it a serious medical condition with severe consequences for patients if treatment is not provided. Current VA rules prohibit the department from covering or performing any surgical procedures considered to be gender alterations.

In February, the Defense Department proposed adding non-surgical hormone therapy for gender dysphoria into the military's Tricare insurance coverage. The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee shot back at the time, urging that the military not be an "experimental laboratory for social issues."
The changes could be laying the groundwork for the Pentagon's plan to allow transgender troops to serve openly. Defense Secretary Ash Carter set a deadline earlier this year for studying the issue but a final directive lifting the prohibition has not yet come.
The VA's proposal was lauded by the American Military Partner Association, which describes itself as the nation's largest organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender military families.
Advocates estimate there could be as many as 15,000 transgender servicemembers, and the number could be much higher among the millions of veterans who use the VA..."So many veterans rely on the VA for important medical care that they have earned serving our nation, including transgender veterans," AMPA president Ashley Broadway-Mack said in a statement. "Gender confirmation surgery is often a critically important and medically necessary treatment for transgender veterans, and lifting this ban is long overdue."

Washington Examiner - Federal taxpayers are on the hook for nearly $20,000 just to settle each refugee and asylum seeker, who are then immediately eligible for cash welfare, food stamps, housing and medical aid, according to a new report on the "refugee industry." At one point during the use of the flash-bang grenades, a badly thrown grenade bounced back and fell upon law enforcement, forcing them to scatter. "Sixty-eight cold chemical munitions and four hot gas munitions were launched into the Lech home. ... The defendants blasted holes in all windows and doors of the Lech home. Rubble from the blasts was strewn about the property. The interior of the Lech home was a mass of debris and destroyed belongings from the projectiles launched into the home by the defendants. Chemical munitions or other projectiles were stuck in the walls. The Lech home was completely uninhabitable and its condition posed a danger to anyone entering the home."

Retail Armageddon Hits U.S. Economy With 930 Stores Closing This Year

Kline - With some retailers, including Sports Authority (450 stores) and Sports Chalet, closing all of their stores, and others, like Aeropostale, teetering on the edge of heading into the great strip mall in the sky, this has been a difficult year for brick-and-mortar retailers. The damage, however, is not limited to the chains that are closing up shop entirely.
