IMF Advisor: Could See Eurozone 'Meltdown' in 2 Or 3 Weeks
In an interview on the BBC (via ZeroHedge), IMF advisor Robert Shapiro said some incredibly alarmist things. He tells broadcasters that if eurozone leaders don't address the crisis properly we will see a meltdown as soon as later this month. In his words: "If they can not address [the financial crisis] in a credible way I believe within perhaps 2 to 3 weeks we will have a meltdown in sovereign debt which will produce a meltdown across the European banking system. We are not just talking about a relatively small Belgian bank, we are talking about the largest banks in the world, the largest banks in Germany, the largest banks in France, that will spread to the United Kingdom, it will spread everywhere because the global financial system is so interconnected. All those banks are counterparties to every significant bank in the...

No Right for Americans to Eat Whatever They Want?
A Wisconsin judge has refused to rule that Americans have a fundamental right to drink milk from their own cow, or that they have a fundamental right to produce and consume the foods of their choice. Circuit Court Judge Patrick Fiedler took that position in a case involving a group of families who boarded their cows on a single farm. He said that, in effect, the farm had become a dairy farm and was therefore subject to state rules governing dairy farms. “It is clear from their motion to clarify that the plaintiffs still fail to recognize that they are not merely...

Chavez: Houses on Caribbean islands will be seized
(AP) CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced Thursday that his government will expropriate homes on the Caribbean resort islands of Los Roques, saying the structures were built on plots bought in shadowy business deals. Chavez has nationalized hundreds of privately owned companies since taking office in 1999, but this is the first time he has targeted private homes for expropriation. Chavez offered no details regarding the planned seizures of private homes and quaint inns, known in Spanish as "posadas." "There are...

Hollywood’s gay stars parade their open secrets
'Oh my God. Isn’t that…?” My friend – visiting from London – is staring at the film star who’s just walked into the bar we’re drinking in. “It is… I’m sure it is. Isn’t it?” It is, I tell her. She loves him, she simpers, always has. That last action film he starred in? Genius. And suddenly her expression changes. “Who’s the guy he’s with? Is that…?” His boyfriend? Yes, I nod. It took me a...

Pastor Joel Osteen Says
He Could Vote For A Muslim
US President
Joel Osteen, pastor of Houston’s Lakewood Church, said he would hypothetically not be opposed to voting for a Jewish or Muslim presidential candidate, but that it’s hard to imagine minority faiths dominating the presidential race in a country that is mostly Christian. “Sure I could vote for a Jewish candidate, that’s how our faith was started,” Osteen told Piers Morgan in an interview that will air tonight. “I think I could [vote for a Muslim president]… but 90% of America is Christian so I’m pretty sure I’d find somebody that more shares my beliefs.”
