THE RANT - Story's Facts Reveal D.C. Workings
The Gallup index on job creation for August tied July for the highest level in six years, a plus 28%. Vehicle sales hit the highest level in over 14 years in July. The Dow Jones Industrial Average continues a seemingly inexorable climb to the 20,000 level. So everything is superb with the economy, right?
No. There is a fatal flaw hiding under all of that progress. A flaw that is hidden by a media more intent on protecting an Administration for fear of a 'racist' charge than being the free press granted by the Constitution.
The problem comes from the continuing decline in the workforce participation rate and a government intent on manipulating the facts it doesn't want known.
In a sloppy, contradictory story released earlier today the first words from Reuters read "U.S. employers hired the fewest number of workers in eight months in August and more Americans gave up the hunt for jobs."
Thus the unemployment rate dropped to 6.1% not because enough jobs were created but because more people dropped out than were added into the workforce base. Also hidden in the story was the fact the robust figures from June and July weren't quite as robust as originally reported with 28,000 "created jobs" disappearing. The most telling fact was in the third paragraph's statement "manufacturing jobs saw no growth" for August.
In the report, economists had projected non-farm payrolls to increase 225,000 in August and officially got but 142,000. All of this is guesswork numbers because the Labor Department, that bastion of jobs manipulation, doesn't reveal the details on their "seasonal adjustments" which contort the numbers all the time. The fact the "seasonal adjustments" are adjusted to put the best possible light on the current situation when compared to last year's numbers or even last month's is another thorn in the side of legitimacy of the agency. If the adjustments are not consistently the same, why would anyone in a free press use them in the first place?
In checking the July numbers to August numbers county-by-county across the country, there is no rational way anyone not employed by the Labor Department could come up with even 100,000 new jobs.
After making the point about manufacturing seeing no job growth, this item appears in the Reuters story six paragraphs later: "Manufacturing and service sector jobs showed strong employment growth in August..." The reporter was so twisted in trying to get a positive headline he never caught the contradictory error he put down in the third paragraph and the ninth. Worse the editor is so attuned to being politically correct rather than factually correct, he missed the discrepancy as well.
But we are to believe the auto industry is leading the rebound in manufacturing with vehicle sales hitting the highest annual number since 2000.
Try this for a comparison:
A decade ago the average age of a vehicle on the road was a respectable 6.8. Most car loans were for three to five years. Now car loans, with no interest, stretch out to 6 full years and the average age of the vehicles you encounter while driving is a whopping 11.4. This means for every new vehicle on the road there are three at 14 years of age. New gadgets are "convincing" tire kickers to buy now rather than later if you believe the auto sales story yet the average age of vehicles continues to increase because most people do not have the extra income necessary to purchase a vehicle.
The largest employment shortfall is the declining numbers in the ranks of the middle class jobs and another news story uses government sources to show the middle class itself is shrinking. So where do the car buyers come from in record numbers?
When one fact doesn't jibe with another, there is a problem. But when 'fact' after 'fact' after 'fact' oppose each other, somebody is doing some nifty behind-the-scenes tinkering. The tinker is the U.S. government.
This government's redistribution of wealth, its' business strangling regulations and the resultant economic degradation of businesses rising and falling is causing a stagnation within the economic picture. This cannot be reported directly so the "Too-Big-to-Fail" mentality emanating in every Washington decree is coming back to bite America's taxpaying base. You have to believe the government spent your money well through all the various programs of the last six years and is doing so with your best interests foremost.
The irony is this stagnation economic effect was reported by a JPMorgan Chase research effort quoted by the American Enterprise Institute. JPMorgan Chase was one of the "too-big-to-fail" group that got monetary relief in TARP where the government bought their toxic derivatives, put the debt onto the backs of the American taxpayer and then allowed the institutes involved the advantage of repurchasing the better grade derivatives with more taxpayer-supplied funding through fees.
Now JPMC is alarmed at the disappearance of the middle class. It should be noted the alarm bells rung by JMPC were heard by a vacationing Congress not because it was American taxpayers involved but because one of its favored, complicit pets for campaign contributions was not happy.
The government is conspiring with the stalwarts of the finance sector to get more money from you, the overburdened taxpayer in the very near future so the campaign contributions continue to come in. The illusionist trick is to get us to pay for the costs without knowing they are actually a tax.
In this regard, your sentiment about the state of the economy has to be positive or there would be larger public outcry. The economy has to appear to be doing better than it actually is. So we get the doctored data coming from the various economic sectors under the guise of "seasonal adjustments".
This is the only logical explanation for a reporter and an editor to miss the stated alleged facts "manufacturing saw no job growth" and "manufacturing...showed strong job growth" in the same jobs market story six paragraphs apart. They were citing two different internal Labor Department sources on the same subject. One source done before and one source done after seasonal adjustments were made.
But no matter the facts or consumer confidence level, you can be sure you, the taxpayer, will be paying more to government sources than ever before in the near future--whether it is called a tax or not or even if you do not recognize the entity as a government collection agency but think of it as a local bank.
