Proverbs 22:3 NLT

A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

Israel raises fears of military action against Iran with missile test

The test came just hours after the Israeli prime minister was reported to have stepped up pressure on his cabinet to back military strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities. Indicating that a rapid reassessment of policy was under way, Israeli newspapers suggested that an attack could take place either before the onset of winter or in the summer of next year. The dramatic disclosures came as the Israeli defence ministry confirmed that it had fired "a rocket propulsion system" from its Palmach airbase after a white streak was spotted in the skies above the centre of the country early yesterday morning. The ministry, which insisted that the launch had been long-planned, censored further details. But western experts concluded that Israel had fired a Jericho-3 ballistic missile, which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and could...
---Iran: Israel, US face heavy damage if they attack

Iran would cause serious damage to the United States and Israel should the latter launch an attack on the Islamic Republic, Iran's top military official said on Wednesday. The "Zionist regime's military attack against Iran," Chairman of Iran's Chief of Staff Maj.-Gen. Hassan Fayrouz Abadi said, would lead to "heavy damages to the US as well as [to the]...

UK and U.S. 'draw up joint plan to attack Iran': Evidence of nuclear programme raises tension in Middle East

The UK and U.S. are drawing up plans to attack Iran amid growing tensions in the Middle East, it was claimed last night. Barack Obama and David Cameron are preparing for war after reports that Iran now has enough enriched uranium for four nuclear weapons. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s hardline regime in Tehran has been linked to three assassination plots on foreign soil, according to senior officials in Whitehall. Iran has come sharply back into focus following the end of the Libya conflict. And the unrest has been inflamed by sabre...

See something, say something’ campaign coming to New York hotels

WASHINGTON - The Department of Homeland Security is putting hotel guests in New York and around the country on the lookout for terror. The agency's snazzy "See Something, Say Something" public service announcements, which encourage viewers to speak up when they see suspicious activity, started airing this week on hotel room welcome channels at more than 5,000 sites around the country. The Homeland Security Department licenses the slogan from its originator, the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority. Set at a train station,..

Greece will be cut adrift if bail-out is refused, says EU

The Greek government is expected to be unable to pay wages for state workers and pensions next month without a planned injection of £8billion of EU cash. George Papandreou, the Greek prime minister, met his French and German counterparts ahead of today's G20 summit of world leaders. Mr Papandreou has called a referendum on whether the Greek public supports the bail–out. The decision has plunged the rescue into turmoil. After more than two hours of tense talks in Cannes, Mr Papandreou announced that the referendum would probably be...
---EU leaders scramble to defuse Greek debt ‘bomb’

An emergency meeting of European leaders to discuss Greece’s ongoing debt crisis was held in the French city of Cannes on Wednesday evening. French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel summoned Greece’s George Papandreou to Cannes to provide clarity on his proposed referendum on the EU’s latest bailout deal, an unexpected move that took many by surprise. The special gathering preceded the two-day G20 global economic summit, which will start in Cannes on Thursday. The meeting is expected...

Italy's 'shock therapy' as eurozone manufacturing buckles

Markit’s manufacturing index for Euroland dropped well below the break-even reading of 50 in October. The data for Italy plunged five points to 43.3, the biggest drop since the survey began in the 1990s. “Italy is a serious concern. Total and export new orders collapsed,” said Francois Cabau from Barclays Capital. Italy’s economy is almost certainly in a double-dip recession already, exacerbating the country’s fragile debt dynamics. Manufacturing data for the eurozone as a whole showed the fastest decline since mid-2009 in new orders and export orders...

Nicolas Sarkozy tells Greece: If you don't stick to the rules, leave the eurozone

The Greek prime minister announced the decision in Cannes after Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy gave him an ultimatum that Greece had to “abide by the rules” of the Brussels bail-out agreement – “or leave the eurozone”. Mr Papandreou said that that “being part of the eurozone means having many rights and also obligations”. He said that the debt crisis deal agreed in Brussels a week ago would be “difficult” for Greece and while he “hoped for a yes vote” he wanted the “Greek people to speak”. He added: "I believe in benefits for growth,..

Britain on alert for new super-flu

A NEW strain of killer flu which could spread to Britain within 24 hours is “one of the biggest biological threats of our time”, experts warned. The alert comes after people started to fall victim to seasonal flu and the more virulent swine flu at the same time. Such a rare incidence creates the risk of a lethal mutation, leading to an “ominous” super-flu virus for which humans have almost no immunity, said medical scientists. Dr Peter Hotez, a world-renowned infectious disease expert,..

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Baba Amr district of Homs came under heavy fire on Thursday.

Egyptian helicopter invades Israel's airspace

An Egyptian helicopter on Sunday entered Israeli airspace without authorization, and refused to leave for 25 minutes, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Thursday. The incident occurred at 5pm, when a mi-8 model helicopter crossed the Israeli-Egypt border near Eilat and continued to fly over the Negev. Four F-16 fighter jets were called up from Nevatim and Ovda airbases. The pilots attempted to contact the Egyptian pilot over the radio, but to no avail.
