Proverbs 22:3 NLT

A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

Madonna on Obama: 'We have a black Muslim in the White House'

Pop star Madonna endorsed US President Barack Obama during a performance in Washington, DC. And even if the Material Girl found herself only a few blocks from the White House, she apparently has a few things to learn about the commander-in-chief. In-between singing tunes to a sold out crowd at the Verizon Center in downtown DC Monday night, Madonna made a plea for concert goers to re-elect President Obama during November’s election. Video has since circulated of her spontaneous on-stage endorsement,..

New SARS-related virus believed to have killed at least one and left another in critical condition

LONDON — Global health officials are closely following a new respiratory virus related to SARS that is believed to have killed at least one person in Saudi Arabia and left another person in critical condition in Britain. The germ is a coronavirus, from a family of viruses that cause the common cold as well as SARS, the severe acute respiratory syndrome that killed some 800 people, mostly in Asia, in a 2003 epidemic. In the latest case, British officials alerted the World Health Organization on Saturday of the new virus in a man who transferred from Qatar to be treated in London. He had recently travelled to Saudi Arabia and is now being treated in an intensive care unit after suffering kidney failure. Health officials don’t know yet whether the virus could spread as rapidly as SARS did or if it might kill as many people. “It’s still (in the)...

Five patients hospitalized in Denmark with mysterious respiratory virus

COPENHAGEN - Five persons showing symptoms of infection from a SARS-like virus have been admitted to Odense University Hospital (OUH), central Denmark, the hospital said in a press statement Tuesday. The five patients are currently being examined for symptoms of infection from a new corona virus, which can lead to severe respiratory disease. Corona viruses are a large family of viruses including those which cause the common cold, as well as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), an outbreak of which killed some 800...

New type of swine flu detected in Ontario, not related to U.S. outbreaks

Ontario has found a case of an infection with a new swine flu virus, in a man who had close contact with pigs. The infection was caused by an H1N1-variant virus, which is not the swine flu virus that has been jumping from pigs to people in the United States this summer. That virus was an H3N2-variant, and has caused 305 infections this year in the U.S. but has not been spotted in Canada to date. Most infections with the H3N2-variant flu have been in people who visited pig barns at state and county fairs. The Ontario case was announced by the...

H1N1 case detected in Ontario after man has contact with pigs

TORONTO — A case of H1N1 variant influenza has been detected in Ontario. The province’s chief medical officer of health issued a statement this morning saying the adult male patient became ill after having “close contact with pigs.” Dr. Arlene King says the man is confirmed as having been infected with an H1N1 variant (H1N1v) influenza virus. An influenza virus that normally circulates in animals is referred to as a variant virus when it infects humans. King says the man, who is not being identified, is being treated and closely monitored in a hospital...

West Nile Virus: Fighting the Largest Outbreak in U.S. History

Brandt Leondar is learning to walk again. A single mosquito bite infected with West Nile virus has ravaged his body and his mind. But Leondar, a 51-year-old high school band director from Grapevine, Texas, wasn't even expected to survive, and his doctor prepared the family for the worst. "I had talked to his wife candidly," said Dr. Cedric Spak, "I told her I'm not sure which way this is going to go." Spak is a top expert in infectious diseases at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Nearly 100 victims of West Nile have been treated at Baylor this year,..

Information overload is over-exaggerated. It seems like every other day some columnist or pundit is decrying our modern wired world, feeling overwhelmed by tidal waves of digital data. But a new study from Northwestern University finds that most people are handling this brave new online world calmly. "Little research has focused on information overload and media...

Invasion of the zombie bees: Parasitic infection that causes insects to lurch around until they die spreading across the US

The infection is as grim as it sounds: 'Zombie bees' have a parasite that causes them to fly at night and lurch around erratically until they die. And experts say the condition has crept into Washington state. 'I joke with my kids that the zombie apocalypse is starting at my house,' said Mark Hohn, a novice beekeeper who spotted the infected insects at his suburban Seattle home. Hohn returned from vacation a few weeks ago to find many of his bees either dead or flying in jerky patterns and then flopping on the floor. He remembered hearing about zombie...

Ahmadinejad pushes new world order, end to U.S. 'bullying'

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that a new world order needs to emerge, away from years of what he called American bullying and domination. Ahmadinejad spoke to The Associated Press in a wide-ranging interview on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly — his last as president of Iran. He was to address the Assembly Wednesday morning. He also discussed solutions for the Syrian civil war, dismissed the question of Iran's nuclear ambition and claimed that despite Western sanctions his country is better...

World Muslim group demands laws against 'Islamophobia'

Geneva: The world's largest Islamic body called on Tuesday for expressions of "Islamophobia" to be curbed by law, just as some countries restrict anti-Semitic speech or Holocaust denial. Pakistan, speaking on behalf of the 56 countries that form the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), condemned a video made in the United States that defamed Islam and the Prophet Mohammad, igniting Muslim protests around the world this month. "Incidents like this clearly demonstrate the urgent need on the part of states to introduce adequate...

19 Signs That America Is Being Systematically Transformed Into A Giant Surveillance Grid

You are being watched. The control freaks that hold power in the United States have become absolutely obsessed with surveillance. They are constantly attempting to convince the American people that we are all "safer" when virtually everything that we do is watched, monitored, tracked and recorded. Our country is being systematically transformed into a giant surveillance grid far more comprehensive than anything George Orwell ever dreamed of. If you still believe that there is such a thing as "privacy" in this day and age, you are being...

Politicized, Militarized Homeland Security Department Unveils New Panzer Division

To the list of recent unsettling developments at DHS and other federal agencies -such as FEMA camp expansions, massive DHS ammo buys, a creepy new biometric surveillance system just being rolled-out by the FBI, and drones buzzing our backyards with cameras- we can now add the appearance across the country of not just heavily-armored military grade Humvees, but 'GLS' armored personnel carriers (APC's) such as in the picture above- 2500 of them to be exact. According to reports the Department of Homeland Security is expecting...

Jordan on the brink: Muslim Brothers mobilize for King Abdullah’s overthrow

Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood has given King Abdullah II notice that he has until October to bow to their demand to transform the Hashemite Kingdom into a constitutional monarchy or face Arab Spring street pressure for his abdication. debkafile’s Middle East sources report that Israeli and Saudi intelligence watchers are becoming increasingly concerned about the approaching climax of the conflict in Amman between Islamists and the throne . For Israel, an upheaval in Jordan bodes the tightening of the Islamist noose around its borders...

Genetically modified corn linked to large cancerous tumors

Europe has never been particularly fond of genetically modified (GM) foods, but a startling research paper published last week looks set to harden public and political opposition even further, despite a torrent of scepticism from scientists about the work. The study1, published in the peer-reviewed journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, looked for adverse health effects in rats fed NK603 maize (corn), developed by biotech company Monsanto to resist the herbicide glyphosate and approved for animal and human consumption in the European Union...

US calls Assange 'enemy of state'

THE US military has designated Julian Assange and WikiLeaks as enemies of the United States - the same legal category as the al-Qaeda terrorist network and the Taliban insurgency. Declassified US Air Force counter-intelligence documents, released under US freedom-of-information laws, reveal that military personnel who contact WikiLeaks or WikiLeaks supporters may be at risk of being charged with "communicating with the enemy", a military crime that carries a maximum sentence of death. The documents, some originally classified...

Spain's crisis flares again as AAA club scuppers bank rescue deal

Yields on 10-year Spanish bonds punched back above the danger line of 6pc and spreads over German Bunds reached 450 basis points, intensifying pressure on Madrid as it continues to resist a sovereign bail-out. The alliance of hardline creditors said the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) – or bail-out fund – could not be used to cover “legacy assets” from past banking crises, even after the eurozone’s banking supervisor starts work next year. This prevents the ESM from recapitalising Spain’s crippled banks directly under a €100bn...

Lady Gaga: What Pope Thinks of Being Gay ‘Does Not Matter to the World’

(CSNNews.com) -- Global pop music sensation Lady Gaga told a French radio station that what Pope Benedict XVI thinks about being gay does not matter to the world. “What the Pope thinks of being gay does not matter to the world. It matters to the people who like the Pope and follow the Pope. It is not a reflection of all religious people,” she said during an interview with Europe 1 on Sept. 24. Gaga, who was raised Catholic, has won five Grammy awards and has been nominated for 12 more. She has sold an estimated 15 million albums and 51 million...

Yellowstone Supervolcano Discovery—Where Will It Erupt?

The natural beauty of Yellowstone National Park may appear serene, but it's rooted in a violent volcanic past. Now, geologists have identified which parts of the park are most likely to erupt again someday. Yellowstone's next major eruption will probably be centered in one of three parallel fault zones running north-northwest across the park, a new study predicts. Two of these areas produced large lava flows the last time the supervolcano was active—174,000 to 70,000 years ago—while the third has had the most frequent tremors in recent years...

Volcano erupts with smoke on Sumatra

A volcano has erupted on Indonesia's Sumatra island, spewing thick grey smoke up to 1.5 kilometres into the sky. Monitoring official Suparno says Mount Marapi's eruption on Wednesday is its strongest since August last year, when its status was raised to level three out of four. Suparno, who uses one name, says there is no plan for an evacuation because the nearest villages are far beyond the danger zone of three kilometres from the crater. Marapi is among about 129 active volcanos in Indonesia, which is located on the Pacific Ring...

More land at sinkhole falls in

A 1,500-square-foot section of earth caved in from the edge of a slurry-filled sinkhole near Bayou Corne in Assumption Parish on Tuesday night, pulling down with it several trees and part of an access road, officials said Wednesday. The road was built as a place for parking excavators that will be used in the pending cleanup of the sinkhole, which emerged Aug. 3 in swamps between the Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou areas on property owned by Texas Brine Co., parish officials said in a blog post. The sinkhole — filled with a liquid mixture of...

Five-star survival: The floating Ark hotel that will protect you against a Noah-style flood

It boasts light, airy rooms, plenty of greenery and no doubt the service would be five-star. But the main reason guests would flock to the Ark Hotel would be its ability to save them from a natural disaster of Noah proportions. That's because the futuristic building has been designed to withstand floods caused by rising sea levels. The floating behemoth is a 'biosphere' conceived as a safe, self-contained haven. Branded as a green, self-sustaining environment for guests, the shell-shaped hotel would withstand tidal waves and other natural disasters.
