Subdued Fed Exposes Weaknesses
It's the day after St. Patrick's Day and I'm still feeling green around the gills. It's not that I ate too much or saw too many green things, it's the economic news that has upset the tummy.
The policymakers at the Federal Reserve are so concerned that Wednesday they lowered their projections for how many rate hikes they're planning to implement this year. The current projections call for two, half of what the Fed was saying just a week ago.
Just read some of the statements the Fed made Wednesday afternoon when it dispersed. Prices may be low but they should rise "as the transitory effects of declines in energy and import prices dissipate and the labor market strengthens further." "Business fixed investment and net exports have been soft while global economics and financial developments continue to pose risks." How about "weaker global growth and financial market volatility overseas was causing U.S. financial conditions to tighten somewhat." Then they dropped in housing, "housing sector has improved further", along with labor "additional strengthening of the labor market", and finally the consumer spending "household spending has been increasing at a moderate rate."
If they were regurgitating some pasture droppings it would be a nicer pile of garbage.
The declines in energy and import prices are no longer in place, The Fed is a couple of weeks out of date on those. Maybe it is just because they never have to pay themselves but have a chauffer or hireling fill their vehicles.
The falling fixed asset investment has been missing for a long time in the U.S. economy. Investment of any kind, without accumulating debt, has been absent for decades.
How can they expect import prices to have fallen without some lowering of export volumes?
But the real problems with the Fed statements came in the final three comments above.
The price of housing has increased for sure, but all that has done is create even more of a gap between what is affordable and what is available. There is a building crisis in the housing market itself because too many properties are priced beyond the reach of the vast majority of the 25-35 age bracket. You cannot expect a family starting out to commit 40, 50 even up to 70% of their take home pay to a home. Yet that is where that market is currently at.
Which brings us to the labor statement. The illustrious Fed looks only at the unemployment rate, not realizing that earnings are falling for each job. The simple fact is most consumers are scrambling to meet existing expenses without worrying about new ones.
Then we get to play in the sty leftovers--the household spending comments.
Obviously the Fed is looking at the false data. Didn't these stalwarts of the financial realm even look at the Commerce Department's figures released before their meeting that revised January and February?
For January, the original data showed consumers spending .2% more than they had in 2014. The Rant disputed that immediately and showed how the real household spending had dropped by .2%. On Monday the Commerce Department finally got to the negative .2% number after their first revision showed a drop to no change year-over-year. The problem part with the Commerce's statement on February was the ink wasn't yet dry on the original assessment of .1% gain in household spending.
Let's go back to the labor side of things. The BLS reports on the employment activity clearly showed a drop in hourly wages. Based on the current employment level the Rant showed how the economy would have had to add 898,800 jobs--just to stay even. BLS was over the moon with 242,000 jobs added and most of that was in seasonal adjustments not in real count.
In fact the BLS has added some 2 million workers to the working side of the ledger without sound proof those 2 million job even exist through the willy-nilly, unexplained but government accepted "seasonal adjustments." (By strange coincidence there are also some 2 million phantom businesses in official government tallies.)
Now, putting these additional factors into the bureaucratic doubletalk the Fed used, might seem like a waste of time but Wall Street went ga-ga over the fact the Fed will not raise rates because it means more borrowing at low rates to buy back ever more worthless shares.
The real problem areas remain with the consumer. Auto loan delinquencies are surging. You don't read as much about foreclosures in the housing market but that trend is also picking up pace--a reflection of the lower pay-per-hour problem. Commercial real estate--vastly overbuilt across the country--is becoming another drag.
Despite Wall Street's exuberance, the value of the dollar took a real hit on the Fed announcement. It fell against every major currency. Inventory stockpiles continue to surge and the alleged Commerce Department rebound in retail sales receipts was simply edited to the loss it should have originally been.
Americans have short memories. The revised numbers, while sending all sorts of warning signs, were met with a collective yawn--that was last month's news, not fit for further consumption. The Fed action, rather inaction, spoke volumes.
Where once many governors spoke confidently about four rate hikes as if they were accomplished fact for the year, the subdued tone of cuts on projections didn't raise many eyebrows.
Going forward into a minefield with gusto is not an action approved anywhere. This economic landscape has thousands of minefields but the two largest remain the length of this rally--it is very long in the tooth by normal standards, and the credit cycle has been entrenched for far too long as well. The economy is running on the fumes of credit now with no revival of cash flows in sight to pay those down.
What the Fed inaction did was highlight the overall economic weakness. The inaction showed the severity of the bubbles easy money credit created.
The economy is in shambles if you care to look. The nice, well-appointed living room has been overtaken by a flood. The Fed, instead of cleaning the home out and starting to rebuild, just closes it eyes and hopes the water dries up and nothing will have changed.

I have a proven confidential source which told me early in the week that foreign troops were arriving in Texas to prepare for the coming civil war. And what specifically are they doing, they will be participating in the UWEX 16 war game which is designed to (1) extract dissidents; (2) engage rogue American military unit who are not on board with the new agenda of the new management which will soon be taking up residence in the White House. Presumably, we are talking about a Clinton presidency.
I decided to sit on this revelation until the commencement of UWEX 16 next week, or until I received on the ground confirmation. Last night, I received confirmation from eye witness at Camp Bullus in Texas. The person is a civilian contractor and had personal contact with several of these invdividuals at an eatery on the base. They were wearing American military units, but were speaking several foreign language. My source said that some troops will come in other the UN flag and some will be brought under the NATO command. I contend that that they have been here since at least last fall. Why should I believe these 2 accounts? Because I warned America about this last fall. Here is some of what I reported late last fall.
Any military intelligence officer will tell you that even the smallest thing could mark the coming of a major event. There is a video going viral that should concern every American who hopes to retain any remnant of the Constitution, including the hope of legally retaining ownership over a gun. Ultimately, the presence of UN personnel in the manner in which we see in the following video, should be disturbing to even the most unaware American.

DEFCON Warning System - Update 3/17/16
This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 9:30 P.M., Thursday, March 17th, 2016. Condition code is Yellow. DEFCON 3.
There are currently no imminent nuclear threats against the United States at this time, however the situation is considered fluid and can change rapidly.
The situation in Korea continues to grow in intensity. North Korea has launched more missiles and there are reports that a number of additional missiles are being fueled. In South Korea, military bases are on high alert and there is unease among military leaders that something is going to happen.
It is important to note that there has been no detected troop movements by either North or South Korea. We have detected no combat aggressive maneuvers by either side at this time.
Due to the extreme tension in the area, and due to the growing possibility of misunderstanding or misinterpretation, we feel a raise in the alert level is a prudent precaution.
This is only a precaution. There is no imminent threat of combat breaking out at this time. It is unlikely that there will be hostilities, but we can not ignore the possibility.
Current missile deployment by North Korea would indicate any strike would be against South Korea or Japan. An attack against the United States is unlikely.
Again, this is only a precautionary alert.
