State Senator Comes Out During Same-Sex Marriage Argument
DAYS OF LOT: Nevada Senators voted, following a dramatic hour of speeches that included one state senator coming out as gay, to start the process of removing a same-sex marriage ban from the state constitution. Senators voted 12-9 in favor of a state joint resolution that will require Nevada recognize all marriages, regardless of gender, reports the Las Vegas Sun. The resolution was favored by Democrats, with only one Republican, Sen. Ben Kieckhefer voting for the measure. The vote was taken late at night following an hour of debate, during which Demcoratic Sen. Kelvin Atkinson declared that he is gay. “I’m black. Idaho OKs transgender licenses without doctor’s note
BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Transportation Department has agreed to new regulations allowing transgender motorists to change the sex designation on their driver’s licenses without a surgeon’s note. In 2011, the agency began requiring a signed surgeon’s note signifying “a complete surgical change of gender.” This year, two people were blocked from getting their driver’s licenses based on that policy. Through the American Civil Liberties Union, they complained, calling it an invasion of privacy. They also claim that in many instances, gender changes can be done without surgery. The ACLU says Idaho’s highway department had no business asking prying medical questions. The agency will now require a court order or affidavit from a doctor attesting to a gender change. In Alaska, an ACLU lawsuit forced a change to that state’s rules in 2012. Fox News
Meteorite crashes through roof in Connecticut, scientist says
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A Yale scientist says a rock that crashed through the roof of a home in Wolcott was a meteorite. Police say resident Larry Bech called them Saturday morning to report that his home had been damaged by a falling rock the night before. Authorities suspected the object was a piece of runway from a nearby airport. But Stefan Nicolescu, the collections manager for the Mineralogy Division at the Yale Peabody Museum, examined the rock and tells WVIT-TV

One is this just happened, and we — everybody here worked, from the President on down, worked hard to bring about this action on legislation that in the end Congress has to vote on. It is an issue that 90 percent of Democrats voted for and one that 90 percent of Republicans voted against. So 90 percent of Republicans voted with 10 percent of the American people. So there is no question the President is disappointed with all those who did not vote yes. But the fact is there was a decision made largely within the Republican Party that they did not need to listen to the majority of the American people. And for whatever reason — and there was no plausible reason laid out at a policy level for why we should not simply make better a background check system that has been in existence for a long time now, that has been effective where it is in place in preventing criminals from getting weapons, which should be a goal that we all share — why not make that system better in a way that does no harm to Second Amendment rights, in a way that 90 percent of the American people support, that gun owners support, that avid sportsmen and women support? We should do that. And the President believes we should do that. And the fact that a minority in the Senate disagreed with not just the President — it’s not about the President — disagreed with 90 percent of the American people is I think unfortunate and will — they will go down, I think, as being wrong on this because it will happen. Soros Spends Nearly $7 Million to Push Gun Control
Five U.S. gun control groups have received almost $7 million combined from liberal billionaire George Soros, including the most prominent one, the Brady Campaign. The Soros contributions to these five groups total an astounding $6,727,966 between 2000 and 2011. The American Bar Association, a liberal group of lawyers, received $4,093,946 from Soros. According to their site, “the ABA believes that lawyers share a special responsibility to help create a just and secure society in which firearms are well-regulated.” President Laurel Bellows urged for more than just background checks back in January, including “full integration of state and local mental heal records into the National Instant Check System” and supported an assault weapons ban. One of the earliest churches ever to be excavated in Israel was recently discovered in the archeological site of Tel Shilo, in Samaria. The church, dating from the fourth century C.E., was discovered on a site believed to have once housed the Israelites’ Ark of the Covenant. The discovery has sparked a lot of excitement. The many visitors who came to see the excavations at the Tel Shilo site over Passover last month were first told of the discovery, which was accidental. The church was uncovered when rainwater, which was abundant this winter, seeped into the ancient basilica at the archaeological site. In efforts to prevent the water from causing damage to the basilica, it was decided to dig a drainage ditch. The workers who dug the ditch accidentally discovered three mosaics that had been incredibly preserved, which led to the discovery of the ancient three-room church.
